From 2013 to 2015, the Heineken Africa Foundation and HEINEKEN’s Sedibeng Brewery are supporting Peace Maker Home-Based Care, a Non Profit Organisation founded in 2000 to provide home based care services to sufferers of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and other chronic or contagious diseases. The Organisation also offers health education and counselling, runs awareness campaigns and distributes condoms and nutrition.
Peace Maker currently offers its services to five townships within the Ekurhuleni Municipality, with the majority of patients coming from extremely impoverished backgrounds. Patients are often aged, orphaned or are from child-headed homes. These patients are in desperate need of total medical care, and Peace Maker works to address this need by providing access to health care which could otherwise not be afforded by these communities.
The Heineken Africa Foundation is supporting Peace Maker’s programme by donating a Toyota Quantum vehicle for the transportation of patients under home care to their nearest clinic for treatment. This is a key service which allows underprivileged patients, who cannot afford transportation to local clinics, to receive crucial medical care. The provision of this vehicle allows Peace Maker to save on transport costs and to render their services with greater ease. Sedibeng Brewery is responsible for insuring, maintaining and licensing the vehicle for the duration of the sponsorship. Peace Maker will be responsible for ensuring the vehicle is safely stored at night and for providing a licensed driver to take health care workers on visits and to transport patients to clinics.
